Root Canal Treatment
Traditionally, root canals have earned a bad reputation for being painful procedures, but improvements in treatment technologies combined with the gentle hand of an experienced, friendly dentist is changing that perception. Root canal- or endodontic- treatment enables a dentist to remove damaged pulp tissue within the tooth. This damaged tissue is what causes the dental pain. Once the damaged tissue is removed, a special filling is cemented in its place and the pain is alleviated. A crown is placed over the tooth following the procedure to strengthen it.
Contrary to popular belief, root canal therapy is no more uncomfortable than getting a dental filling. The American Association of Endodontists recently referenced a study where patients who had undergone root canal treatment were six times more likely to refer to it as “painless,” compared to those who had not had the treatment.
